Stick framing creates a triangle between the rafters and ceiling joists. Other roof shapes particularly those with dormers or on houses with cathedral ceilings attic rooms or attic storage areas are stick built. The two basic types of roof construction stick framing and truss assembly both produce a structurally sound roof. It starts with setting ridge and valley beams above the house walls.

One of the most common is that with a site built roof it s easier to customize the roofline. Gable and hip roofs may be built primarily of trusses. Framers or roofer also have given me feedback about the strength of a trussed roof versus a stick framed roof. However constructing a stick framed roof is not always easy.

The beam or the ridge is the central part of the structure as all the framing must be connected to it. Builders sometimes also prefer this construction method when they want to provide a large attic space or high vaulted ceilings often called cathedral ceilings. Stick framing is building the roof on the construction site one piece or board at a time. Does your stick framed roof come with that.

A stick framed roof is made up of individual rafters and that are connected to a top beam. All the trusses built by us come with an engineer seal that say they will handle the loads that are specified.
